Canada-EU Economic Partnership Negotiations

On October 17, 2008 Canada and the European Union (EU) agreed to work together to define the scope of a deepened Economic Agreement and to establish the critical points for its successful conclusion, particularly the involvement of Canada’s provinces and territories and EU Member States in areas under their jurisdiction. Canada and the EU have estimated that negotiations will begin sometime in 2009. An Economic Partnership Agreement between Canada and the EU will complement the multilateral trade negotiations currently underway at the WTO.

The Province looks forward to working closely with the Federal Government to ensure the interests of British Columbia are appropriately represented in an Economic Partnership Agreement and to assist in building greater connections between British Columbia, Canada and the EU.

In 2008, BC exports to Europe totalled $2.604 billion.
